We have been informed that a safe containing a data back-up has been stolen from a secured location of Allianz Global Assistance. Ibex uses the services of Allianz Global Assistance for the insurance of new members on the introduction weekends. We are still trying to determine which data have been stolen. Our first educated guess would be that they only have names and dates of birth from Ibex members. We will inform you as soon as we receive more information from Allianz Global Assistance about which data were kept in this specific data set.
So far, there is no indication of the culprits having access to the data. The back-up is still protected and special equipment and knowledge are needed to access the data. Allianz Global Assistance has reported the theft to the police and the investigation is still ongoing. Allianz Global Assistance has also reported the data leak to the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, the Dutch regulatory authorities concerning personal data and privacy.
We want you to be aware of the risks if the culprits gain access to the stolen data. They could send phishing emails and text messages, seemingly in the name of Allianz Global Assistance. Allianz Global Assistance never sends payment requests via email or SMS. We advise you to be extra careful regarding unusual transactions and suspicious requests. If you receive email, SMS or post from Allianz Global Assistance which you don't trust, report this to firstname.lastname@example.org. If you receive unusual or suspicious emails which seem to come from Ibex, report this to email@example.com or contact the board personally.
On behalf of the whole board, I want to say that we are very sorry to have to inform you about this unfortunate event and we will keep you updated as much as we can.
From September 23rd to 29th, all Dutch climbing gyms will give special attention to the Partnercheck. This campaign is organised by the Stichting Veiligheid Klimsport.
We want to ask you to pay extra attention to the Partnercheck. The goal is to remind everyone of the importance of the Partnercheck, no matter how experienced you are. We want to support this initiative and ask all Ibexers to lead by example as you always do ;)
What is a good Partnercheck? Think for yourself what you check before you have convinced yourself that it is safe to start climbing. Do you know all the steps? Can you honestly say that you always go over each one of them?
Make sure that a good Partnercheck is a habit!
